Gymi preparation in Zürich
Lern Academy prepares your child for the Zürich Gymiprüfung with premium one-to-one tutoring and coaching, never group courses. Our tutors teach and study at ETH, UZH and Zürich’s gymnasiums and know the ZAP inside out. Everything starts with a free trial lesson.
One-to-one, not a course
The Gymiprüfung is won one child at a time
Lern Academy prepares your child for the Gymiprüfung with individual one-to-one tutoring and coaching, not a group course. A dedicated tutor works with your child alone, so the whole preparation is built around them.
- The ZAP is demanding and intensive, and no two children arrive with the same gaps.
- One-to-one adapts the pace, focus and content to your child alone.
- More time on the hard topics, faster over what they already know.
- A class can only move at one pace for everyone.
One-to-one vs a Gymi course
Why individual preparation fits this exam better
Traditional Gymivorbereitungs-courses typically put 8 to 20 children in one class. Here is how our one-to-one preparation compares, point for point.
Why families choose us for the Gymi
-
Individual, never group
One-to-one preparation tuned to exactly where your child is, not a packed course moving at someone else’s pace.
-
Tutors who know the exam
They teach and study at ETH, UZH and Zürich’s gymnasiums, and know the ZAP’s format and recurring topics.
-
The bridge for your family
When German is not your first language, we guide the preparation in English or German so you can follow your child’s progress.
-
The past-paper method
Structured practice with real past exams, timing and technique, so the exam day holds no surprises.
What we prepare
The Gymiprüfung tests Deutsch and Mathematik. We prepare both, with a tutor matched to each subject.
Deutsch
- Reading comprehension and language questions
- Grammar and spelling (Sprachprüfung)
- The Aufsatz (essay)
- Reading and writing under time pressure
Mathematik
- The recurring ZAP problem types
- Word problems and logical reasoning
- Geometry and arithmetic
- Timing and clean, checkable working
Your preparation roadmap
Structured preparation over several months works far better than last-minute cramming. A typical roadmap:
- 12 months out
Diagnose and build
We pinpoint the level, close gaps and build solid fundamentals.
- 6 months out
Topic by topic
We work through the exam topics and start the first past papers.
- 3 months out
Full past papers
Complete past exams under realistic, timed conditions.
- 1 month out
Timing and technique
We sharpen timing, weak spots and exam-day technique.
Starting later still helps. We build the most effective plan for the time you have.
What families say
Our son prepared for the Gymi with a tutor who knew exactly what the exam demands. The weekly past papers gave him real confidence, and he passed.
We don’t speak much German at home, so the preparation felt out of reach. Lern Academy guided everything in English and kept us in the loop the whole way.

Common questions about Gymi preparation
What is the Gymiprüfung (ZAP)?
It is the Zentrale Aufnahmeprüfung, the central entrance exam for the Zürich Gymnasium, held each March in Deutsch and Mathematik.
What is the difference between Lang- and Kurzgymnasium?
The Langgymnasium exam is taken after the 6th year of primary school; the Kurzgymnasium exam after the 2nd or 3rd year of Sek, where a non-programmable calculator is allowed.
When is the exam and when do we register?
The ZAP takes place once a year in March. Registration is usually in January and February. Always check the canton’s official page for the exact dates.
How much does Gymi preparation cost?
Preparation costs CHF 70–85 per hour, with no hidden fees. You always start with a free, no-obligation trial lesson.
Can you help if we don’t speak German at home?
Yes. Many of our families do not speak German at home. We can guide the preparation in English and keep you informed of your child’s progress throughout.
Do you offer group courses?
No. We only offer individual, one-to-one preparation, matched to your child. The goal is a perfect fit, never a packed classroom.
